Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
He began swimming at age eight.
Why this sport?
He followed his older sister in joining a swim club. He was also involved in judo, inline skating, skateboarding and mountain biking at a young age. As a teenager his parents said he had to either focus on studies or swimming. "They told me, 'Either you devote yourself fully to your studies and you practise swimming as a hobby, or you devote yourself to swimming'. My mother doesn't like swimming and my grandmother was even afraid of the water. I liked swimming, but I preferred to go to the freestyle park. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. But I had a lot of energy and just tried a lot of things that I liked."

CHANGE OF COACH
After he won bronze in the 200m individual medley at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he decided to begin working with coach Philippe Lucas in Martigues, France. He had trained under Fabrice Pellerin in Nice, France, since 2015. "It's time for me to write a new chapter in my career. I made the decision to leave Nice and my coach Fabrice Pellerin, who has been with me since 2015. He helped me achieve my dream: an Olympic medal. The prospect of the [2024] Olympics in Paris and the feeling of still being able to accomplish great things guided my choice to continue until 2024. I will now do everything to succeed in the last challenge of my life as a swimmer, the Paris Olympics."
