Other information
RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
He plans to retire from competitive swimming after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and delayed his retirement by a year following the postponement of the Games. "I asked myself, 'Do you want to do this for another year?' You don't recover as easily as you did in your early or mid-20s, but you have other advantages, you are more experienced and mature and you know what is good for you." The 2020 Games in Tokyo will be his third Games. "My complete focus is geared towards the Olympics. 2012 was my first, I still have very good memories. I wanted a medal in 2016, and came close in the end. So I will now try again. I've always been geared towards the Olympic Games, and I don't really care what I'm doing in the four years between. I'm really only interested in the Olympics." (swimswam.com, 03 May 2020; rnz.de, 29 Apr 2020; sportschau.de, 04 Dec 2019)

OCCUPATION
He works for a financial services company based in Hirschberg, Germany. (Ubi Bene magazine, 01 Nov 2020; swimswam.com, 03 May 2020)

STUDIES
He has studied geoscience at Heidelberg University in Germany. "I've always been interested in marine biology. Of course the animal world is also fascinating, but for me it was even more exciting to see what goes on underwater in general. Oceanography or geology, how the world is composed down there, are simply great disciplines. Since my course is so wide, I can also learn about how to deal with renewable energies." In 2017 he began studying on a business administration course. "The financial sector is something for my life after retirement from professional sport."
