Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
He learnt to swim as a child at Eva Bory's Swim School in Sydney, NSW, Australia. "I didn't start squad [training] until I was eight and started competing at age nine."
Why this sport?
His parents enrolled him in swimming lessons for pool safety, and his childhood dream soon became representing Australia in swimming. He was spurred on to become a stronger swimmer as a child after being unable to finish a 100m race at a school swimming gala in his early years.

Other information
RIO REDEMPTION
He won the 200m breaststroke final at the Australian national championships in 2016, which doubled as the national trials for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. But his winning time of 2:09.90 missed Swimming Australia's qualifying time of 2:09.64, and he was not selected to compete at the Games in Rio de Janeiro. "[Missing the 2016 Olympic Games] was probably the best thing that could happen to me. It's made me more mentally resilient to my competitors. [In 2020] I want to prove to myself that I can perform on the Olympic stage." (Swimming NSW Facebook page, 13 Mar 2019)

BREASTSTROKE FOCUS
He began focusing on breaststroke in 2016. "I started out as a medley swimmer. Coming into 2016 I started moving towards breaststroke as I thought it would be my best chance of making the Olympic team. So I knuckled down, started doing breaststroke, and I've stuck with it ever since." (Swimming NSW Facebook page, 13 Mar 2019)
