RETIREMENT THOUGHTS He considered retiring from competitive swimming after he had been unable to swim for two months from April to May 2020, when his sponsorship deal was terminated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He decided to remain in the sport with the support of the Tottori Swimming Federation while taking on a part-time job. "When I was working part-time, I was thinking, 'What am I doing now? Is it okay for me to do this in order to continue swimming?' Despite having a rough time I could see and feel people's support for me, so I wanted to return the favour."
