Sporting philosophy / motto
"I was always told to aim high and to value the effort. If I set myself limits, I might never reach them. If you seek to reach a five you will most probably achieve a three, but if you aim for a 10 you might get an eight." (bcn2013.com, 14 Feb 2013)

Other information
RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
Speaking in mid-2020, she said she was contemplating retirement. She said she still hoped to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, which would be her fourth Games. "I'm satisfied with my sporting career. I have not thought about what I would like to do after I retire, I am someone who lives in the moment, but it will probably be something related to sport." (marca.com, 03 May 2020)

HARD TIMES
When she was recovering from a collapsed lung in 2017 she was concerned she may not be able to compete again. When she first returned to the water she had to be accompanied by someone for safety reasons. She resumed competition in August 2017. "I had to go to therapy. I tried to be at home as little as possible in order not to think too much. I was still in pain, but I slowly got used to swimming again. I am lucky I didn't lose my will to continue swimming and my winning mentality." (mundodeportivo.com, 01 Feb 2018; elmundo.es, 04 Dec 2017)
