He began swimming at age four.
Why this sport?
He also played football as a child but chose to focus on swimming at age 13. He thought he was better at football, but found swimming more enjoyable. "It must have been winter when I decided."

CELTIC FAN
He is a supporter of Scottish football club Celtic. The 200m breaststroke final at the 2012 Olympic Games, in which he was the fastest qualifier, was shown live on the big screen at Celtic Park before Celtic took on HJK Helsinki in a Champions League qualification match in August 2012. TRAINING ABROAD
