Sport Specific Information
When and where did you begin this sport?
She learned to swim with her grandmother at age five and began swimming competitively at age seven.
Why this sport?
She competed in both swimming and ballet as a child. She eventually chose to focus on swimming as she thought she had more potential in the sport. "After watching swimming at the 2004 Olympic Games, I began thinking that I really wanted to do that. I kind of reached a point where I had to make a decision between pursuing swimming or ballet full-time to achieve the goals I wanted to, and I ultimately chose swimming. It worked out well."

BALLET TO SWIMMING
She was a competitive ballerina for 10 years and believes her ballet experience benefitted her swimming. "I definitely think that ballet helped with swimming because of all the jumping. That has helped me in the long run, being able to use a lot of power in my legs to keep myself moving. Part of it was finding a rhythm, too. [In] ballet you need a lot of rhythm and internal ability to keep that rhythm going. I had that ability to keep that going [in swimming]."
