Sport Specific Information
Why this sport?
A growth spurt led to injuries in gymnastics, and coaches recommended he try diving instead. "The impacts of gymnastics were not compatible with the state of my joints after I grew 18cm in one year. I had the chance of stopping high performance sport altogether, or trying something else. I had the chance to stop for a while but the coaches had another idea. My coach knew the national diving coach. My experience in gymnastics gives me an advantage. I do not regret it."
When and where did you begin this sport?
Previously a gymnast, he switched to diving in 2010 at age 15.

RETIREMENT
He announced his retirement from competitive sport due to a recurring back injury in April 2021, four months before the rescheduled Olympic Games in Tokyo. "The postponement of the Olympic Games and the departure of my coach Hui Tong were already big blows but I was ready to take up the challenge. Sadly in sport, you need to be at your best at the right moment, and injuries have stood in my way. We have tried everything to overcome it. We worked with physiotherapists, doctors and all our staff to find a way, but I had to accept that getting back to top form, earning selection and fighting for a medal would put my health in danger. I have also dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot, so I have had to end my sporting career to have the time to recover and a chance to make my second dream a reality." (lequipe.fr, 21 Apr 2021; sport24.lefigaro.fr, 22 Apr 2021)

BITTER MOMENT
He was disappointed with his fourth-place finish in the men's 10m platform at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "The Games are the showcase of my sport. I cry every time I watch a video about the other medallists in Rio. Those Games were such a crazy experience. The atmosphere was incredible with the Olympic rings everywhere. You can see all these thousands of athletes everywhere. The craze was overwhelming. But then, the fourth place was really bitter, and hard to digest. Finishing outside the podium places was devastating at the time, but afterwards I regained that desire to win, to find a new challenge." (rfi.fr, 12 Dec 2019; sportmag.fr, 10 Jul 2019)

PHOTOGRAPHY
He is passionate about photography, especially capturing athletes, and has an Instagram page dedicated to his hobby. "I love to capture the expressions and emotions of athletes in sport. For example, with diving, I take more photos of athletes warming up than actually diving." (leparisien.fr, 11 Mar 2019)
