He began swimming at age five. He started competing at age eight under his first coach, Rafael Maldonado. He took up open water swimming in 2009.

SWIMMING SCHOOL
In 2013 he opened the Ivan Enderica Swimming School in Cuenca, Ecuador. "We are fulfilling a dream that my family has had for some time, which is having our own training school so we can give back what little we know [of the sport] to other people. I must thank my brother Gabriel, who decided to use my name for the swim school." OTHER ACTIVITIES
In 2019 he was elected a board member of the Azuay Province Sports Federation in Ecuador. "It is a commitment that I have with all my teammates and athletes in Azuay. Everything I do has to be aimed at sports. I love to travel and compete, but I feel that little by little I must begin to return what I've invested in my sports career.
