LATE BLOOMER She gave up swimming at age 18, before returning to the sport as a coach at age 24 after meeting her partner Will Scott, who was also a swimming coach. She then resumed competing, initially with the Rockingham club in Perth, WA, Australia, and went on to make her first world championship team in 2017 at age 29. "I figured I was competing at my level and the Olympians were way up there on another level [when she quit the sport at age 18]. It's like starting from scratch at age 24. I found out there are all these little steps to get up to the top and I started taking those steps and working my way up. I definitely wasn't expecting [to make the 2017 World Championship team], it was very exciting. I guess it shows anything can happen."
