RETIREMENT PLANS He intended to retire from swimming following the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, but decided to continue after the Games were postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also consulted with his sport psychologist Aapo Kilpelainen about extending his career. "Aapo wanted to have an in-depth discussion on how to proceed. Indeed, it is quite a thought-dominating thing. When the outlook for the competition season changed, of course, it also affected what had been done. The turmoil in the world and the cancellation of competitions made us wonder how we should train if there were no competitions." (is.fi, 27 Mar 2020; yle.fi, 22 Mar 2020)
OTHER ACTIVITIES In 2021 he was appointed a sports ambassador for his home city of Pori until the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. "It's great to be able to help children and young people and make Pori a more mobile city." (yle.fi, 25 Sep 2021) |
