SWITCH TO OPEN WATER
She competed in the 800m freestyle at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and failed to progress from her heat, which contributed to her decision to switch to open water swimming. "I always qualified for the highest competitions, for the world championships, European championships, and the Olympics, but it never went well. After Rio, I asked myself how I should go on, whether I should stop. I didn't want to train so hard, just to be eighth or ninth. My abilities in the pool were exhausted at some point. It never went as well as I hoped. That's why I switched to open water in 2016, which initially didn't go that well. But it got better and better and I persevered and absolutely wanted to do it. At first I didn't know how to behave at the start, on the buoys or in general. Those who say that only those who fail in the pool move to open water are wrong. This is a completely different sport." Sport Specific Information
Training Regime
"I do a total of 10 swimming sessions a week. I cover around seven to 10 kilometres a session, and over the entire week that is between 70 and 100 kilometres in the water."
