RETIREMENT She announced her retirement from competitive swimming in October 2021. "It is now time for me to say goodbye to competitive sport and take on new challenges. Devoting myself to competitive sport was one of my best decisions. I didn't want to miss a second. I was able to gain experience, got to know new cultures and people, and travelled to places and countries that I might otherwise never have seen." (swim.de, 18 Oct 2021; Instagram profile, 16 Oct 2021)
MOVE TO MAGDEBURG At age 17 she decided to move from her hometown of Elmshorn, Germany, to Magdeburg, which is 300 kilometres away, to continue her work with coach Bernd Berkhahn. (faz.net, 19 Jul 2017) |
Injuries |
She collided with Russian swimmer Sergey Bolshakov while competing at the 2017 World Championships in Balatonfured, Hungary. The collision caused her to hyperventilate, which led to her being pulled out of the water. (faz.net, 20 Jul 2017) |
