Sport Specific Information
Why this sport?
He wanted to join a junior lifeguard camp but did not have the requisite qualifying time. It was then he asked his mother Wendy if he could join the local swim club. "I think I just saw it [open water swimming] as another opportunity to race, and being a distance swimmer, it was fun to try doing a 10k. For a long time, I wasn't very good [in open water swimming]. However, toward the end of high school I started to improve and have significant time drops and thought it would be an outside possibility to make the [Olympic] team. From there, I just worked to improve every day, year by year, and the possibility of making the team became more and more realistic."
When and where did you begin this sport?
He began swimming at age nine. He took up open water swimming in his junior year of high school at Team Santa Monica in California, United States of America.
