Why this sport? |
He wanted to join a junior lifeguard camp but did not have the requisite qualifying time. It was then he asked his mother Wendy if he could join the local swim club. "I think I just saw it [open water swimming] as another opportunity to race, and being a distance swimmer, it was fun to try doing a 10k. For a long time, I wasn't very good [in open water swimming]. However, toward the end of high school I started to improve and have significant time drops and thought it would be an outside possibility to make the [Olympic] team. From there, I just worked to improve every day, year by year, and the possibility of making the team became more and more realistic." |
When and where did you begin this sport? |
He began swimming at age nine. He took up open water swimming in his junior year of high school at Team Santa Monica in California, United States of America. |
