She collapsed due to hypokalemia [low potassium] after winning a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle in the 2017 National Games in the People's Republic of China. Her parents introduced her to swimming, and she enjoyed being in the water. She played tennis in her youth and once finished runner-up in a city-level competition in the People's Republic of China. However, she had to choose one sport to continue and picked swimming over tennis after finishing primary school.
