MENTAL HEALTH
She felt she underperformed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia, where she only qualified for one final. Her performance was criticised by one of the Canadian national team coaches and she was then dropped from the relay squad later in the Games. Combined with a number of health issues she was facing, her mental health began to suffer and she took a six-month break from swimming. She returned to the sport in 2019, and won four medals at that year's Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. "All the emotions I had felt over the past few years [before the 2018 Commonwealth Games] came out and they were amplified. All my dreams had just collapsed. I told myself once again that people were right, that I was not up to the task. This is where I fell into depression. I got sick of swimming. I learned to hate the sport I loved so much. I got to the bottom of the barrel. Why did a sport that I started doing to achieve my dreams get me that point.
