Sporting philosophy / motto |
"That's the whole point of this, to have fun and love it and do it for that reason. It's not for a medal, it's not for a record or a plaque. It's about doing it because you love it. And I love swimming." (onwisconsin.uwalumni.com, 01 May 2018) |

STRUGGLING TO ADAPT She says she found it difficult after initially failing to meet expectations while representing the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States of America and developed an eating disorder. She regained her passion for swimming in her junior year through her coaches. "My first year of college was one of the most eye-opening in my life. For the first time I wasn't living up to any of the expectations set for me in the pool. I had developed an eating disorder and was spiralling deeper into a depression. My Olympic dream seemed further away than ever. While I managed to recover from my troubled relationship with food during my sophomore year, my love for the sport was still in jeopardy. I wasn't swimming for myself anymore, I swam because I felt I had to. But at the beginning of my junior year, my coaches reignited the fire underneath me, motivating me to continue striving for success. I started swimming for myself again, and it showed." (beatanelson.com, 11 Nov 2020)
COACHING She serves as a volunteer coach to the University of Wisconsin-Madison swimming and diving team in the United States of America. She graduated from the university in 2020. "I am beyond thrilled to use the knowledge that I've gained from my years as a Badger to help grow this programme even further. Being able to assist in this new role is very exciting. This is an incredible opportunity and I am so honoured to not only represent Wisconsin as an athlete, but as a coach as well." (uwbadgers.com, 28 Oct 2021) |
