Sporting philosophy / motto
"Motivating myself for training is always super easy because I always have my goals. I try to keep them in the front of my mind and I try to do a lot of self-talk, and repeat them. I remember the positive things I've done in previous races. If I have a bad race, the biggest motivation for myself is to look at where it went wrong and then try and fix that." (olympicchannel.com, 02 Jan 2020)
Other information
LEDECKY RIVALRY
She says she has a friendly rivalry with US swimmer Katie Ledecky and enjoys competing against her. Titmus' victory in the 400m freestyle at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, Republic of Korea, was the first time Ledecky had been beaten in the event at a major meet since 2013. Titmus won gold in the same event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo ahead of Ledecky, who claimed silver. "When I'm not at the pool I've still got to think about my training, my eating and my sleeping. But it had to be like that because of who I was facing. I had to perform in a race where I was trying to take out the best female swimmer ever. If I didn't have someone like her to chase, I definitely wouldn't be swimming the way I am. I never go up against Katie scared, I'm always more concerned with what I know I can do and I know I can be good enough to beat her. We chat, she's just a normal person. She's lovely actually. We get along, like most competitors do." (7news.com.au, 02 Aug 2021; time.com, 30 Jul 2021; theadvocate.com.au, 30 Oct 2019; SportsDeskOnline, 08 Dec 2021)

RELOCATION
In 2015 her family relocated from Launceston, TAS, to Brisbane, QLD, Australia, to provide her with better training opportunities. She was initially coached by Peter Gartrell following her move, before working with Dean Boxall. "I'm lucky to have parents that would do anything for me. A lot of other parents wouldn't pack up their whole lives and leave their jobs to move to Brisbane, but they wanted to do whatever they could to help me achieve my dreams."
