RIO PRESSURE He said he struggled with the pressure of competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but that he learned from the experience. "At the Games I thought that everything was fine, but when I stood at the starting block and saw the crowd, it messed with my mind. I was thinking, 'Referee, please let's wait three minutes so I can calm down'. But no one waited. It was my first big event and I was thrown into the deep end. My mind couldn't withstand it. I have to learn from that kind of experience to progress." (RunForest podcast, 11 Jan 2021)
FROM ISRAEL TO POLAND He was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, after his parents moved to the country to work. The family returned to Poland when he was age four. "My parents say that I spoke Hebrew fluently then, but unfortunately I've totally forgotten it. I learned to stay afloat when I was there, but my real swimming story started in Poland." (se.pl, 08 Aug 2018) |

Why this sport? |
He was encouraged to take up the sport by his mother, because much of his family was involved in swimming. "My mum told me that if I didn't go swimming, I would not get any sweets. That's a big deal in your life at age four, so I had to agree." |
