She followed her parents into the sport as they were both competitive swimmers. "My mum and dad wanted me to enter other sports at first [athletics, tennis, horse riding] but I didn't stay in any of them. Karate was never my first sport, I only trained it to develop other things. I felt it in swimming, and continuing it was inevitable. My parents' successes, their medals, watching them, were certainly to blame for me gaining a love of swimming." |

FAMILY SPORT
She is the daughter of Slovenian swimmer Metka Sparavec and Russian swimmer Alexander Fain. Her younger sister Nika has also competed in the sport. "When I started swimming, my parents had already finished their careers, but I read old interviews, looked at race recordings and photos, admired the medals. We have a lot of that at home. The daughters of top swimmers just can't afford not to know how to swim. It seems to me that as a parent you definitely want your children to surpass you. That is why I am chasing her results and I want to improve them even more. In general, as siblings, Nika and I are competitive. However, it is a bit harder to compare us in the sport as she is younger, and we specialise in different events. She's a sprinter, and I swim longer distances.
