Why this sport? |
His parents got him involved in sport to keep him out of trouble and his fourth grade primary school teacher suggested that he join a swimming club. "I'm glad I took the advice. It was then that I joined Poole Swimming Club. When I was around 13 or 14, I started to realise how good I actually was, and if I worked hard, how good I could become. This was down to achieving my first national age-group medals. These were for the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events. I soon discovered that I swam well in the butterfly. However, when I won medals at nationals swimming the backstroke, it was then that I discovered that the backstroke would be my main stroke." |

SWIM TEACHER He passed his Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant [teaching] course in early 2019. "Training to become a swimming teacher was the perfect solution. I obviously love the water, but I also needed a job that will fit my unusual schedule. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the course. It went above and beyond my expectations. I was thrilled with the instant feedback from the kids that I was training with. It was great to watch the children's faces as they grew in confidence in the water. I can't wait to use the skills learnt. It's a very rewarding job." (Twitter profile, 12 Jan 2020; proswimwear.co.uk, 07 Jan 2020; swimming.org, 16 Mar 2019) |
