Coach Zhu Zhigen. (sports.eastday.com, 12 Sep 2018) |
Other information |
DISTANCE CHANGE He swam long distance early in his career but almost quit swimming because he was unhappy with his results and felt he was not getting any advantage from his height. He was about 170cm tall at age 14. With encouragement from coach Zhu Zhigen he stayed and then grew more than 20cm. He then switched to short-distance swimming. "I loved swimming from very early on, but without coach Zhu Zhigen, I wouldn't be where I am today. In the past few years, my weight grew significantly, I became stronger and then faster. Because I was a long-distance swimmer before and switched to short-distance swimming, I have better stamina."
