Coach Vito D'Onghia persuaded her parents to let her become a competitive swimmer at age four. "My dad had swam at a competitive level and absolutely didn't want me to follow this path. He wanted me to play tennis, but Vito came to my home one afternoon on his moped to talk to my parents so I could compete in meetings. In the end he managed to convince them."
