She began open water training after being selected for the Canadian junior national team. "My sister ran over to me at school and said, 'Mum got a phone call. You're on the junior Canadian open water swim team'. I never really planned on going down that road [open water swimming]. I like the pool, love the pool." |

She began swimming competitively in 2010. She took up open water swimming at age 14 in 2018 at a Swim Ontario training camp in Miami, FL, United States of America. She swam at her first open water competition several months later at the 2018 Junior World Championships in Eilat, Israel. |
