Milestones
 At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russian Federation, he became the first male swimmer to win a medal at seven editions of the world championships. He then won silver in the 200m butterfly at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, to extend his own record to eight. He also made history at the 2015 World Championships by becoming the first male swimmer to claim medals in all three distances in butterfly at a single edition of the championships. He retired from competitive swimming after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "Now I've managed to convince myself that it's great what I've achieved. I could say with all honesty that I don't mind that I've never clinched the Olympic gold. I know that for years I talked differently as that was another mistake to think that I was nobody if I was not an Olympic champion. This how we were brought up. I became a type of man who wants to satisfy those around him. Instead of being content with myself and to take care of that first and foremost.
