NEW ROLE In December 2014 he took up the role of head of aquatics at Fit Republik, a multi-sport facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. “I feel I have achieved everything I wanted to. Now my passion is trying to build an aquatic programme and I enjoy giving back.” Having initially ruled out making a bid to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after taking up the coaching role, he did make an attempt to qualify for the Games but was unsuccessful. "I think, honestly, my time with competitive swimming has come to an end. I think that chapter of my life has closed. I need to put my focus and energy into my work."
