She began training alongside mixed duet partner Renan Alcantara in 2015. "It [the mixed duet] is a transformation in our sport, which was basically feminine. It was something that I embraced. I was introduced to Renan by Maura Xavier, a national coach at the time. I asked if Renan wanted to return to artistic swimming, because he quit. So we teamed up and it worked out. I have done duets with girls, but with him it is better. We have a connection. It is special to be part of something revolutionary for the sport." (flamengo.com.br, 03 Jul 2019)

She initially took part in gymnastics but found the sport too difficult. "I began in 1999. I did artistic gymnastics, but I did not want to anymore, and I really liked swimming. I went to a pool and I saw several legs up. It was the national team practising with Monica Rosas. I turned to my mother and said that I wanted to do that too. So she signed me up for classes. After my first competition, I realised it was something that I really wanted to do. I was only nine years old." |
