OTHER ROLES In November 2021 she was elected to the Athletes' Commission of the Russian Olympic Committee [ROC]. "It is unexpected for me. I was nominated in 2016 too, but then I was not elected. I am glad that this time I managed to get enough votes to be elected to the ROC Athletes' Commission. For me, this is a new stage, unknown but interesting. You still have to delve into all the issues, and there are many of them - you touch on one global problem, but in order to solve it you need to cope with a number of tasks along the way." (russwimming.ru, 23 Nov 2021)
COMEBACK In January 2015 she launched a comeback after regaining her fitness following the birth of her first child. She had not competed since winning three gold medals at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russian Federation. (SportsDeskOnline, 17 May 2021; swimvortex.com, 27 Jan 2015)
MARRIAGE PROPOSAL She and Sergey Fesikov got engaged after they had both competed at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Fesikov proposed marriage while they were riding the London Eye. He bought tickets for the last ride of the day, at midnight, and proposed once their compartment reached the highest point of its ride. (ng58.ru, 14 Aug 2012) |

While doing a step test in training in early 2013, she broke the fifth metatarsal bone in her right foot, which hampered her training and forced her to miss the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. (sportbox.ru, 17 Nov 2013; rg.ru, 13 Nov 2013, 26 Feb 2013)
She aggravated an existing back injury at the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Italy and had to withdraw from the 2010 European Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Russian doctors at the time advised she quit the sport but she found a German doctor who altered her training regime and she returned to the pool in time to compete at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, People's Republic of China.
