Injuries |
In 2021 he sustained a patellar tendon injury in his left knee and needed surgery. The injury ruled him out of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. (tvazteca.com, 19 Jul 2021)
In 2019 he injured his Achilles tendon during training and required surgery. He was unable to compete at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, or the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. He returned to training in late 2019. He was inspired by watching professional Mexican wrestlers doing flips and other acrobatic stunts. "Mexican wrestling was what I was going to train in because I wanted to be a wrestler, with a mask on. But I practised diving because my father liked the sport and I inherited that passion from him." |

CHANGE OF PARTNER In 2021 he parted ways with synchronised partner Ivan Garcia, whom he had competed with since 2010. His injuries had limited the pair's competitions in the years following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He joined Andres Villarreal to form a new synchronised team in 2021.
