FREEDIVING
In 2021 he began working with freediving coach Mike Maric to develop his breathing technique, which he says has also helped him overcome stress. "I want to unite the worlds of freediving and swimming and see what results the combination will bring. I'm trying to work on breathing, especially before the race, to store as much oxygen as possible in order to have a much larger air reserve than before. I have loved freediving since I was a child. A few years ago [speaking in December 2021] I met Mike and we immediately developed a friendship. It brought me even closer to the world of freediving, but above all to the world of breathing. This helps me so much to get through any sadness and weakness, because through the breathing techniques I am able to relax. LOSS OF HIS MOTHER
He admitted that he was devastated following his mother's death in July 2020 from a brain tumour. "She was my biggest inspiration. When I was a kid, she was the one that decided to take me to the pool, as she was a swimming instructor and used to train a team in Cittadella [Italy]. She was my number one fan. I feel empty without her, as something very, very big in my life is missing. Knowing that my mother won't see me compete in competitions like the Olympics is devastating for me. I used to call her after every race, as she was so anxious, so it will be tough. My mum was one of the most important people in my life, and you are never prepared for this situation." OTHER ACTIVITIES
He runs swimming camps through the Luca Dotto Swim Academy in Italy. "With my academy, I can lend a hand to these kids and share my passion with them. We athletes are seen as invincible. I want the kids to understand that we are nothing more than normal people who have reached an elite level, and all of them have this ability." He has also worked as a fashion model.
