NEW PARTNERSHIP
He and his synchronised partner since 2010, German Sanchez, had their competition time limited in the years following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro due to injuries to both athletes. In 2021 he began diving with Randal Willars after Willars' partner, Diego Balleza, was injured. The new partnership won silver at the 2021 World Cup event in Tokyo, Japan, and secured an Olympic quota spot for Mexico in the synchronised 10m platform for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "We are a team that has had so little training together but that does not mean we do not have quality. I'm happy how things have worked out and now Mexico has a new combination." (milenio.com, 05 May 2021, 03 Apr 2021)

INJURY STRUGGLE
After the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he did not compete internationally again until late 2018, due to repetitive problems with his knees. "It was long and tough. I underwent surgery in October 2016 and did six months of rehabilitation. I thought I was ready to train again but, when I got back, I realised I couldn't do it. I underwent another surgery and it was a hard blow for my mind. I reached a point in which I began believing what doctors had told me, that I wouldn't even walk again. One of the things that helped me was being with my family. The birth of my daughter Ivana in 2017 gave me a boost of energy and motivation." He underwent surgery again on both knees after the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. (olimpicos.marcaclaro.com, 01 Oct 2021; publimetro.com.mx, 20 Aug 2019; milenio.com, 15 Aug 2019)
