Injuries
In October 2020 she underwent surgery on her knee and her shoulder. (Instagram profile, 16 Jun 2021)

She did not compete at the 2018 World Series event in Montreal, QC, Canada, due to shin splints. (fina.org, 28 Apr 2018)

A shoulder injury forced her to miss the 2015 Queensland Open in Australia. (diving.asn.au, 27 Feb 2015)

She has focused on springboard events since age 12 after she was forced to give up 10m platform because of a stress fracture to her wrist. (diving.asn.au, 27 Feb 2015)

NO 3M SYNCHRO IN TOKYO
She and her 3m synchronised springboard partner Annabelle Smith were unable to take part in the final qualification event for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo after Diving Australia pulled out of the World Cup in May 2021 due to safety concerns related to COVID-19. "To have our team's opportunity to qualify [for Tokyo] in remaining events removed is truly devastating. Maddi and I have been stripped of our chance to defend our Olympic bronze medal, in an event [3m synchronised springboard] we have pushed the boundaries in since Rio," Smith said. REDEMPTION IN BUDAPEST
She won a gold medal in the 1m springboard event at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, after a strong final dive saw her overtake Russian diver Nadezhda Bazhina to finish first. Her victory in Budapest helped put to rest memories of the zero she scored after her final dive in the same event at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russian Federation, where footage of the dive became popular online. "I wanted to redeem myself [in Budapest]. I didn't need to think about what happened in the past because I knew that all the training, all the hard work I'd done, would pay off." (abc.net.au, 16 Jul 2017; au.news.yahoo.com, 15 May 2016; dailymail.co.uk, 01 Aug 2014)

OCCUPATION
She has worked as a systems engineer for a large insurance company in Australia. "As I went through my degree, I became more interested in data analysis, so I took up the computational science major. I know a lot of athletes do nutrition or exercise science, stuff like that, but I think it's good to have something completely different to focus on, to get away from the diving."
