Sporting philosophy / motto |
"I do everything the best I can. I try to work hard in everything I do and that really helped me become as versatile as I am. I don't look at a fly set different than a backstroke set. I don't really like swimming IM [individual medley], but I will give the same effort in an IM set. It helps with versatility and helps with my main stroke as well because I am giving an honest effort, even if I don't want to. I take a lot of pride in that." MOVE TO ARIZONA In 2019 she began training with coach Bob Bowman at Arizona State University in the United States of America. She had previously been based at the Athens Bulldog Swim Club since graduating from the University of Georgia in 2016. "I am very excited and happy for this new chapter. I am already in love with my new home. Bob has already been able to work with me in ways I haven't had since age-group swimming when it comes to the dynamics of my stroke. You grow up and have this set habit of how you work your stroke. And even though I'm 25 [speaking in 2020], Bob was able to look at it and see exactly what needed to change. Bob sees things that I don't necessarily see. I am really hard on myself, but he is able to take all of the positives and put me back to reality when I need it." MENTAL HEALTH In 2019 she said she had battled mental health issues throughout her competitive career, particularly related to a lack of confidence, and has worked with psychologists. "It was kind of hard for me to admit it at first. Luckily, nowadays more and more people are coming out and talking about needing to [get help]. It was a changing point for me. It [getting treatment] showed me that your mental health is way more important than your physical abilities. My physical abilities are there. I've put in the work, but I was lacking confidence. I had this new-found appreciation for what I was doing." (yorkdispatch.com, 12 Jun 2019)
OTHER ACTIVITIES She has been a volunteer swimming coach at Arizona State University in Phoenix, AZ, United States of America. She also has a licence that allows her to operate as a real estate agent in Arizona, United States of America. (swimswam.com, 08 Dec 2021; si.com, 10 Aug 2021) |
