RETIREMENT THOUGHTS She considered retiring from swimming after she did not make the Japanese team for the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. She then had further thoughts about giving up the sport following the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, but ultimately decided to continue.
